Václav Vavryčuk is a senior researcher at the Institute of Geophysics CAS. He focuses on theoretical and computational seismology and cosmology. In seismology, he is interested in modelling of seismic waves in isotropic and anisotropic media, near-field waves, parameters of earthquake sources, focal mechanisms and seismic moment tensors, analysis of micro-earthquakes in the West Bohemia region, advanced methods of data processing, and inversion for tectonic stress from focal mechanisms. In cosmology, he is focused on light extinction due to absorption of light by cosmic dust, modelling of extragalactic background light and cosmic microwave background, and on properties of the early universe and its dynamics.
He is an author of more than 100 papers published in impacted astronomical, physical or geophysical journals. He is a Titular Member of the European Seismological Commission for the Czech Republic (2000 – till now).
