On the 30th and 31st of May, GFÚ hosted an international workshop on the Extent and Longevity of Magmatic Mush organized by Catherine Annen (Volcanic and Magmatic Processes) and Prokop Závada (Dynamics of orogens and rock deformation). It was attended by an interdisciplinary group of 24 scientists from seven countries and three continents whose career stages range from master students to emeritus professor Steve Sparks. The participants presented their research, discussed the dynamics of magmatic mush and how they are linked to large volcanic eruptions and to mineral deposits. Scientists did not stay only with the computers, but visited the laboratory of fluid dynamics (Tectonic modelling laboratory by Prokop Závada), and observed the experiments made on mush at GFÚ.
